A Better Voice-Controlled System For Your Smart Home Is On The Way
One of the promises of voice-based computing is the ability to make home automation simpler – something that major tech companies, including Amazon, Apple and Google, are now tackling with their own voice assistants and smart speakers. But their solutions are still somewhat clunky, both in terms of the software interface for configuring your smart home and the voice commands you use to take actions. That’s where the startup Josh.ai comes in.
Josh.ai, founded by Alex Capecelatro and Tim Gill, has raised $11 million to design a better voice-controlled system for smart homes. Gill has spent years developing his own home automation system and so has been Capecelatro. However, disappointed with the current home automation systems available in the market, aspire to carve a niche above the mass market solutions. After plugging in the Mac, Josh.ai auto-discovers devices on the network and can control lighting, thermostats, cameras, music, etc.
The USP of the Josh.ai system is the automatic speech recognition. One can speak to the voice assistant “Josh” and instruct the home what needs to be done. Josh can also multi-configure various devices like lights, shades, music, fans, thermostat and other switches.
