A Strong Move Into The Smart Home Race, Apple TV Is Finally Getting Friendly With 3rd Party Integration
As announced at WWDC 2018, Control4, Crestron, and Savant home automation systems will have the ability to control and manage Apple TVs through the IP in the latest iOS 12.
Remote control via Crestron and other third-party home-automation systems will be available through a shortcut on Apple’s Control Center in the forthcoming iOS 12, as announced at WWDC 2018.
Known for its preference to stay away from third-party integration, it looks like Apple TV will get IP control via Control4, Crestron, and Savant home-automation remotes. The company is planning to enable the IP control including the voice commands for Apple TV through the TSR-310 touchscreen remote control. Users can make use of Siri to control and manage the Crestron devices in their houses, such as the shades, lights, and thermostats.
Apple TV currently offers practically no integration with other third-party home-automation systems. Apple has also talked about Dolby Atmos support in iTunes. This move makes Apple TV the only streaming player which offers support for both Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision.
