After A Few Delays, Smart Home Platform Wink Will Begin Its Subscription-Based Plan Starting 27th July
Wink, the smart home platform, is launching its subscription-based plan towards the end of this month, after several delays.
The subscription will put many of the service’s previously free features behind a paywall, including crucial aspects of the service like the ability to update the firmware or add new devices.
The company posted that the timeline was re-designed for the users to have more time to consider. Wink’s subscriptions will now start from July 27th, 2020 at US $4.99/month. Users who don’t participate in the subscription model will find that their usage is severely restricted. While they will be able to see the list of devices, they will not be able to use most of the features.
This includes the likes of voice controls, cloud controls, API support, third-party integrations, add new devices, edit device names, and so on. One cannot even update the firmware for the hardware! On May 6th, 2020, Wink posted that long-term costs and certain economic events have led to financial instability. Without a paid model, the company had no way of continuing.
