“Alexa, Good Night” – Turn Off The Lights, Lock The Doors, And More All At The Same Time Using Alexa Routines
From September 2017 onwards, Alexa was available in all Echo devices and later, in many other products. The Routines lets the assistant perform many activities but under a single command. The series of activities can be feed in the Alexa app beforehand.
For example, if you say the phrase, “Alexa, good night,” the virtual assistant might proceed to turn off all the lights, lock the doors, and shut off the downstairs heating system, depending on your preferences. You can also create an entirely separate routine for the morning if you want Alexa to start the coffee maker, turn on the lights, and read you the day’s weather forecast.
The devices can be grouped together, such as ones in the same location or a room. Then Alexa can be programmed to activate them with one command. You can also add many smart products into one group. For example, instead of asking Alexa to switch off the lights one by one, it can be done with just one command.
You can access the Routines feature, with a range of Echo devices. Third-party products featuring Alexa can also be used for the same. As of now, Routines can control only smart home devices, weather, news, and traffic updates.
