Alexa’s Latest Skill Development Tools Reduces Friction Between Smart Device Makers And Their Users
Amazon recently announced the Multi-Capability Skills for Alexa. This is a way to blend custom Alexa apps with smart home apps into unified ones.
Developers can publish and maintain an Alexa app that enables both internet of things and third-party features for their devices, extending built-in smart home commands with custom voice interaction models to support nearly any feature without forcing customers to enable and invoke two separate apps.
The fact that developers will not need to remember more details allows them to create more meaningful experiences. Dyson has already used the skill to allow users to communicate more naturally with its devices via Alexa.
Developers who already have the older Alexa apps can simply update them via the Alexa Developer Console. With smart home devices expected to experience huge growth in the coming years, it is no surprise that Amazon is spending time and effort on this. The company is also trying to increase the ways Alexa developers can use voice profiles in their apps with the Person Profile API. This will allow the apps using Alexa voice profiles to retrieve full contact details in no time.
