Amazon’s Success In International Markets Is Propelling Fire TV Into The Number One Streaming Platform Surpassing Roku
Amazon’s Fire TV devices grew by 4 million users and today, the company has about 34 million active accounts. In comparison, Roku has about 29.1 million active accounts. Amazon sells a version of Fire TV in most countries and the gadget is designed to work with Prime Instant Video in most of them.
Roku’s sales are significantly smaller, with most of the focus on the UK, France, certain parts of Latin America, and North America. Roku has a couple of advantages over the Fire TV and it looks like it can easily catch up.
Fire TV is largely appealing only if you are heavily invested with Prime Video. Roku has its own platform, The Roku Channel, containing its licensed products. Internationally, Roku is still quite small but showing great potential to expand in the near future.
Yet Amazon has the advantage of an ecosystem of services that feed Fire TV device sales. Prime members are likely to prefer Fire TV over Roku for easy access to Prime Video content.
