Are Smart Home Capabilities Slowing The Adoption Of Robots In Our Homes?
While robots have now become a reality, they are currently more like toys or seen as entertainment than to actually perform chores.
By 2024, ABI Research forecasts some 79 million homes around the world to have a robot in the house, much like what was featured in the movie Bicentennial Man.
However, until the companies manage to find solutions to the issues they are facing, it may not become a reality. Consumer awareness, availability, and pricing remain the top concerns for robot vendors. There are two types of these robots; one is a home care robot that is designed to work on chores around the house while the other is a personal robot which acts like a companion. Both have their places in a smart home. However, the line between home robots and smart home functionalities is not very clearly defined.
The main point of integration can be said to be voice control support. Giving robots this ability will make them more useful and more comfortable to use as well. Personal robots are still not very popular and consumer adoption is very low. It is hoped that voice support will increase its appeal. The two features that will give a distinct comparison between robots and smart speakers are the former’s mobility and articulation powers.
