Audi Partners With SMA Solar Technology To Offer Smarter Solutions For Charging Their Electric Cars
Audi has formed a partnership with the Hager Group and SMA Solar Technology to create home charging stations for smart homes. These connect the user’s home infrastructure to their electric cars to use the solar power. Audi revealed its first ever all-electric car at the Geneva Motor Show: the Audi e-tron in Switzerland. It is set to be available in a few markets by this year and be globally available over the next couple of years. Audi has plans to ship its intelligent home charging system along with its e-tron.
The system offers multiple solutions to charging these electric cars at home. This can be done via the standard compact charging system which is connected to the home WiFi. With being connected to the home energy management system (HEMS), the intelligent charging functions are enabled.
A HEMS is a technology platform comprising both hardware and software that allows the user to monitor energy usage and production, and manually control and/or automate the use of energy within a household.
The system can be set so that the car charges when the electricity is cheaper while ensuring that the car is ready when the user requires it. The myAudi portal and app allow the user to monitor the charging progress and statistics.
