Automate Your Smart Home With Routines With Google Assistant
With the arrival of Amazon Echo in 2014, voice assistants have become very popular. Both Google Assistant and Alexa have let the users turn down the thermostat, change the lighting, and many other things based on just one command. This single feature has made life considerably easier with the smart home devices.
Any routines with Google Assistant works via the Google Home app which controls the settings. Though there are many devices which are controlled by Assistant, some do not work with Routines. Thankfully, the smart plug, thermostat, and the light bulbs are supported along with a few other popular Google services. With Google, one can build only 6 Routines while with Alexa, there is no limit.
And while this isn't directly related to routines, you can now string together a few commands in one go. You can say "Hey Google, dim my light and play Stranger Things on Netflix" and it'll parse both commands. If you're looking to automate your home, the two platforms are similar enough that you should pick whichever assistant you prefer -- either way, your smart home devices will finally work better together.
