Battery-Free Smart Devices: How Will We Power It?
The demand for smart home devices has always grown at an exponential pace. Most of these devices are powered with a battery to ensure that the installation is as smooth and easy as possible for the consumers. But from an environmental perspective, it would have been better if these devices were battery-free and are instead powered by electromagnetic waves that they receive from other powered devices. Imagine a wireless camera powering the security camera live feed using a technology which can emit electromagnetic waves and the live feed device turn these waves into electricity.
Researchers have been trying to work behind this concept of wireless energy for a while now.
The growing demand for ‘intelligent’ devices that are interconnected with each other, allowing us to control our environment, is pushing the development of wireless, battery-free sensors which can gather information and even make decisions or control actuators.
With this technology, devices might be able to communicate with each other more efficiently.
