Battle For Voice-based Shopping Supremacy Grows Between Google Assistant And Amazon Alexa
Amazon's Alexa-powered speakers and Google Home are fighting for a stronghold in the emerging voice-based shopping markets.
Voice shopping using smart speakers and smartphone apps is starting to gain traction among consumers, opening up a new "conversational commerce" channel and potentially disrupting the retail sector.
These devices use AI to respond to the voice commands and offer the users more convenient ways to order services and goods. The smart speakers have expanded the opportunities available via text-based systems or smartphone chatbots, such as those from Apple or Facebook.
The most common categories of shopping include entertainment, electronics, groceries, and clothing. AI can help the shoppers by offering them guidance and insight. Walmart partnered with Google to let the users place orders by voice command. The company also came up with Jetblack, its own text-based personalized shopping service.
Domino's Pizza takes orders through Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Facebook Messenger. Apple is lagging behind as Siri lacks the ability that Google and Alexa have. Analysts believe that more competitors will enter the market soon.
