Battle Rages On In Smart TV Market As Roku Finalizes Deal With Apple For AirPlay 2 Integration
Apple and Roku are closer to closing the deal thanks to which you will now find AirPlay 2 support in Roku devices. This deal would let the users stream photos, music, and videos directly from iPads, MacBooks, iPhones, and other Apple devices to the Roku user interface.
If you have Roku streaming devices or Roku-powered smart TVs port videos, you can easily do the above. Roku’s big bet to become a central OS for smart TVs has paid off. Neither companies have confirmed anything so far.
At the CES 2019 in January, Apple announced AirPlay 2 support for LG, Vizio, Samsung, and Sony TVs. Many thought that this piece of news was a significant setback for Roku. The Roku interface is what that powers smart TVs developed by electronic giants, such as Hisense, Hitachi, TCL, Sharp, Sanyo, and RCA.
Those makers would be challenged to remain loyal to Roku if their rivals end up with AirPlay 2 support and they don’t.
After the announcement by Apple at the CES, Roku’s stock was called un-investible.
