Best Buy’s Shift To Smart Device Tech Support And Installations Creating A Split Between Partnership With Vivint Smart Home
About a year ago, Best Buy Co. Inc. got together with Vivint Smart Home to assist in selling home-monitoring and similar products. However, they are now breaking up this plan.
Bloomberg, citing unidentified sources, reports that hundreds of Vivint employees who had worked in Best Buy stores selling connected-home tech have been dropped in recent weeks and Best Buy has pulled Vivint products from its shelves.
However, this does not look like it is a complete breakup as Best Buy still has smart-home products on sale. Though the company may shift installation and sales to their own employees, Vivint Inc. employees can assist with the installations, according to Bloomberg.
A spokesman for Best Buy said that they are continuing to work alongside Vivint. Vivint, owned by Blackstone Group private equity firm, has not made any comment on the issue so far. Vivint’s systems let the users control the house lights, locks, and security camera via their smartphones.
