Better Communication Among Interconnected Devices With CHiP Protocol
The big 3 – Google, Apple, and Amazon – have been using different technology in their smart home devices which make it difficult for different connected devices to communicate. For example, Alexa cannot control a smart device linked to Google Home and vice versa. This is set to change with a new protocol named Project Connected Home over IP (CHiP). The protocol is set to launch by 2021.
Think of CHiP like a translator for tech devices, a center that all other companies could spoke off of, still retain their own systems, but work with the other.
The standard will be built on the internet protocol (IP) and has the widest inclusion of the products. It also aims at resolving multiple security and privacy issues. It is expected that the setup will be on Wi-Fi, including Wi-Fi 6, Thread along with Bluetooth Low Energy. The main aim of the product is to ensure that devices work in Amazon Alexa, Apple’s Siri, or the Google Assistant.
