British Company Centrica Looks To Bring New Smart Energy Management To The US Market
Centrica is working on tech that will help the homeowners save a lot on their energy and utility bills. Centrica has plans to bring the technology to the US soon. The company invested heavily in GreenCom Networks, a decade old German company specializing in IoT utilities and energy service device manufacturers.
Centrica also invested in Mixergy, a spin-out of the University of Oxford’s Energy and Power Group. They are currently working on a smart hot water tank that takes less energy and hence, reduces power bills.
Aimed at giving Centrica access to energy management and smart boiler technology as part of a wider vision to create homes that could consume 70 percent less power from the grid than at present.
The company is on the lookout for partnerships with battery and solar vendors in the United Kingdom. Already established concepts with Centrica include heat pumps, residential EV charging points, and connected appliances.
Centrica has plans of marketing smart home packages in the UK and the first one could be a residential energy storage system for those already having a rooftop solar PV. Since the purchase and installation costs are very high, Centrica may develop a sort of service agreement spread over a period of time.
