Can Samsung Be A Competitor In The Smart Speaker Universe? The Galaxy Home Says They Can!
At Samsung's Unpacked 2018, the company released its new Galaxy Watch, the Galaxy Note 9 phone, and the Galaxy Home smart speaker! The Home is the first speaker by Samsung featuring Bixby. Samsung has to break into the market which is ruled by Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri.
Though Siri is the most popular voice assistants on the smartphones, it is far behind in the line when it comes to smart homes. Google and Amazon have had a good head start and one which they are determined to make good use of. In order to break into this market, Samsung might need to price its products accordingly.
In what could be a blueprint for Bixby's future, Microsoft and Amazon have made Cortana and Alexa interoperable. If you're looking for the closest analog to a Bixby speaker it's the Harman Kardon Invoke (ironically, produced by Samsung-owned Harman), which uses Microsoft's Cortana voice assistant.
Keeping in mind Samsung and Google’s good relationship, it could be possible that the Galaxy Home might offer Google Assistant in addition to Bixby. This would mean built-in Chromecast media streaming and many other features. Apart from the features, Samsung’s speaker also needs to sound good. Stereo pairing is also a feature that would make the users happy.
