Can Smart Tech Be An Integral Part Of Learning For Children?
As a whole family using artificial intelligence in appliances, there are many advantages. It makes life more convenient along with providing fun and entertainment. The question arises of what these devices will teach the children and will it affect the children’s relationships with the outside world or their communication skills?
A professor at the Concordia University is apprehensive of smart tech meant to mimic human interaction. Though the AI of today isn’t realistic as of yet to create this confusion, Luvabella doll is a great example of what the professor is trying to say. The doll talks and reacts with realistic movements and facial expressions. Most children play with their teddy bears or other toys and have make-believe conversations with them.
But when an AI toy is already programmed with its own personality and voice, “there’s less room for the child to make it up themselves,” she says.
There are parents out there who do not want their children to get used to instant gratification with these virtual assistants. It is not always so in the real world. On the other hand, AI can assist the children with their homework once they are a bit older.
