Comcast’s Stringify Shutdown Leaves Service Users Scrambling
Comcast is closing down Stringify. While the service has only 100,000+ downloads in the Play Store, the users have been impacted highly. This is due to the fact that all smart home routines would now have to be moved elsewhere. The alternate platform could be Yonomi or IFTTT, or DIY hub solution like Home Assistant or OpenHAB.
The best option for Stringify is Node-RED. However, this needs some hardware and basic programming to set up. Currently, there is no way to export existing automation and users will have to start all over again.
Since every service has its own interface and process, there is no export feature. IFTTT offers the simplest setup but it also has drawbacks, such as one can’t have multiple triggers in one recipe.
Sure, there are likely some other custom APIs or code that’s being used by these third-parties for connecting devices and creating automations.
Developing a service that offers a no-hassle set-up option and automation import/export and the backup feature would make it extremely attractive to the end user and one wouldn’t mind shelling out the additional dollars.
