Compatibility Is Key As Alexa Expands To Work With Over 60,000 Smart Devices Across 7,400 Brands. And Growing Every Day!
Nowadays, it feels like Alexa is omnipotent. This is because while other assistants have compatible with only specific devices, Amazon has tried to make its voice assistant more diverse and compatible than anyone else. Alexa is now compatible with 60,000 smart home devices across 7,400 brands. It is one of the market’s most accessible voice assistant.
Last year, Alexa was compatible with 12,000 devices and the number jumped to 20,000 in September 2018. In the last few months, Amazon has successfully increased the figure by 200%. When compared to notable competitors, they are lagging behind significantly.
Google is the closest to Alexa at this point and even their margin is considerably large. Google Assistant supports 10,000 devices across 1,000 brands.
During Google I/O, the search giant announced a new privacy initiative that will result in the “Works with Nest” program that allows smart home devices to connect to Nest products becoming obsolete.
The numbers may see an increase as companies update their devices to offer Google support. The only place where Amazon seems to struggle with Alexa is in smartphone presence, where Siri and Google Assistant have an excellent hold.
