The first and most obvious benefit to smart homes is convenience, as more connected devices can handle more operations (lighting, temperature, etc.) and frees up the resident to perform other tasks. But beyond this, smart home IoT devices can help reduce costs and conserve energy.
Amazon leads the home automation market with its central hub Echo, which is voice controlled by Alexa and interconnects all other smart home devices. Google’s Nest has created a self-learning thermostat that can automatically adjust temperature with far-field sensors. Other companies in the home automation market are Apple, August and Philips. With scalability, the prices of smart home devices will come down, leading to further growth in the home automation market.
