Cortana Will No Longer Be Available In Your Smart Home
The latest update to Windows 10 will be the end of Cortana and as a result, another rival of Alexa and Google Assistant goes down. Microsoft is now designing Cortana for personal support instead of as a smart home assistant. The ‘personal productivity assistant’ will help make your life easy by adding reminders, navigating Microsoft 365, send emails, and more.
Microsoft squirreled the news away deep at the bottom of its announcement, which emphasized, instead, how Cortana will help people with their daily needs.
In the smart assistant category, Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant have been the dominant competitors with Apple’s Siri, Samsung’s Bixby and Microsoft’s Cortana coming behind. Users can use Cortana to control the Harman Kardon Invoke smart speaker via Cortana iOS and Android apps. Cortana can also be used to manage several third-party smart home devices. However, these integrations seem to be coming to an end with the company also planning to end support for Cortana in Windows’ earlier versions. While Cortana can still be used, it will be only within the Windows ecosystem, such as in Bing and so on.
