Despite Some Reports, Interest In Smart Tech Is Soaring With Sales Heading Towards Another Record Breaking Year.
Smart home tech is gaining popularity by the day. Consumer Technology Association predicts that 2019 will break the records of consumer technology sales in the US, expecting the sales to cross $400 billion. The leading products here include smart speakers, smart home safety, and home robots.
Earlier this month, a Thinknum opinion piece used a single data measure, Amazon sales rankings, to suggest consumers are over smart home tech and interest is dwindling.
It suggests that these devices may have been attractive to some people initially, but it does not appeal to the masses. After a study, NPR and Edison Research came to the conclusion that 53 million people owned smart speakers, of which as much as 69% used it on a daily basis.
According to the Thinknum author, interest in smart tech declined after an increase in 2017. A 78% increase does not seem like a decline! The sector that’s rising the fastest includes home safety and monitoring devices with a 19% rise in annual unit sales. This category includes products, such as smart locks and doorbells, smart switches, Wi-Fi cameras, smart smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, smart thermostats, dimmers and outlets. Home robots are the next ones that are in high demand. In conclusion, according to CTA and NPR reports, the interest in smart tech does not seem to be waning at all.
