Facebook Cameras Are Not Very Welcome In Homes
According to Fast Company, not many are interested in using a Facebook-manufactured camera at their residence. The shipping rate of Portal cameras is very low.
Sure, Facebook is repeatedly embroiled in privacy scandal after privacy scandal, but surely that wouldn’t stop anyone from shelling out their hard-earned cash to purchase a Facebook camera that also listens in on their conversations. Oh, wait.
Facebook has released two versions of Portal where one of them was focused only on video calls. Although Facebook has always declined to reveal its sales figures for the Portal devices, the vice president of AR and VR at Facebook has maintained that it is high. ‘High’ is a pretty relative term.
According to Fast Company, only 0.6% of the units were sold. Despite this, the company has launched an entire second generation of the cameras during the Portal event last month. It looks like Facebook is determined to make its dream of having a Facebook-controlled camera in every home a reality. Unfortunately, customers don’t seem to be on board.
