Facebook Portal’s Sudden Success Comes Along With The COVID-19 Quarantine
A couple of years ago, Facebook launched the first device in its Portal video calling series. It was met with a lot of criticisms which did not die off even after improved versions hit the market. Recently, however, tabled turned and the device completely sold out. One of the major factors behind this includes the changed working conditions due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Facebook Portal is designed and marketed as a device for high definition video calling. As of now, the series has four devices with the Portal TV being the latest one. In addition to this, the device also has other features like face filters, in-built storytelling, and built-in Alexa. There are also portrait and landscape modes.
These features allow users to do multiple things at the same time, such as listening to music, watching videos, or reading the news. When it was first released, most people had privacy and security concerns.
This fear sprouted entirely from Facebook’s poor track record with customer privacy, including the infamous Cambridge Analytica Scandal.
The Portal TV comes with an HD camera device that can be fastened to the TV to enable video calls and other tasks, offering an immersive experience like never before. Currently, Portal devices are mostly sold in the Canada, US, Spain, and other countries in the North-Western Hemisphere.
