First “Smart Neighborhood” in America?
A new residential facility in Atlanta developed by homebuilder PulteGroup and Georgia Power will have solar energy, smart home automation, and battery storage. It is being called the first “Smart Neighborhood” in the city. The security can be controlled through the Alarm.com and its smart security devices. The opening is scheduled to be later in the year.
Other features by Alarm.com include responding to the user with their activities, schedule, and location by integrating the lights, thermostats, locks, water sensors, and the garage doors. The Georgia Power Smart Neighborhood will showcase the productiveness of Hannah Solar, a full-service solar integrator, installed on the roofs. Batteries by Mercedes-Benz Energy are chosen to store the solar energy for those days the sun is not out.
The batteries will be integrated with a Cloud-based platform by Sunverge Energy to manage load via smart thermostats and grid-interactive water heaters, with forecasting and scheduling operations to automatically provide energy bill savings when paired with Georgia Power’s Smart Usage or Nights & Weekends energy rate.
Georgia Power has partnered with Southern Company R&D and U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory for learning more about the in-home battery storage and the rooftop solar battery storage.
