With the popularity in voice assistants like Google Home Assistant and Amazon’s Echo on the increase, Accenture predicts ownership of digital voice-assistant device will touch 1/3rd of the population in India, the US, China, Brazil, and Mexico.
A Google spokesperson says that there was a tremendous response from India. The smart speakers were designed to localize the experience. With more features and integrations with third-party apps, the Assistant on Google Home will get all the more better. Currently, India is the second largest market for these devices.
Though Hindi is not yet a part of Home, the company is working on the same. The Assistant understands the Indian accents. They are working on these devices to meet the needs of the consumers in India. There are a few Hinglish phrases that have been added to the English Google Assistant in India, such as garam chai!
As of now, the voice assistant devices in India are used more as toys rather than for serious purposes.
Indian consumers often find it odd to speak to a device and get it to obey their commands. This is compounded by the lack of available connected devices and services.
With effective localization, there is a huge potential market in India.
