Googles Assistant Now Has Custom Commands, Alexa Introduces Follow-Up Requests
Google has now come up with custom commands on its voice-assistant, Google Assistant. This means that the manufacturers of new products can program their custom commands into the device which is more relevant to the product, instead of having to choose from the pre-defined ones which might not make sense at times.
Smart speakers have emerged as the hub for connected homes and these voice assistants help the users control their devices and home through this. So far, voice commands were limited to, for example, “on”, “off”, and the like. There is now scope for custom commands on each device.
Google isn’t the only company making big strides forward with its voice assistant technology. Last week Amazon added the ability for Alexa to understand follow-up requests, allowing users to issue a series of commands without having to repeatedly say the word ‘Alexa’.
Amazon and Google are still trying to each race forward regarding the smart home market and the usefulness and the functionality of the voice assistants. These latest features will be delivered through free software updates.
