Has Philips Hue And Lutron Solved Our Biggest Issue With Smart Lights?
With smart lights, you can automate and control them from your smartphone.
The problem? Literally none of that will work if the power is off at the light switch, and learning to leave the switch in the on position is completely unintuitive, especially for kids and houseguests.
Lutron’s latest solution gives a solution to this problem. It is set to ship out in June and is currently available for preorder. Lutron Aurora pairs with Philips Hue smart bulbs and doesn’t need to be wired into your wall to connect to your switch. Instead, you can place it on your switch and lock its positions, making it easy to control it. Installation is said to take less than a couple of minutes, making it a big advantage. This will not impact any existing automation or the voice command feature.
The Aurora offers smooth dimming, no flickering, and physical control over the lights. It sends its signal via Zigbee which means you will have to have the Hue Bridge connected to your router for this. On the brighter side, Aurora will work even if your Wi-Fi is down. Aurora’s single coin battery can last as long as three years. Improvement with this would be if it has the ability to trigger scenes.
