Home And Away Routines – The Latest Feature In Google Home
Google had promised consumers that it will add “Home and Away” presence sensing routines in its smart home platform earlier this year. Users have now started to receive the updates over the air on to their Google Home app.
Users should see the option to Set up Home & Away Routines’ pop up at the top of their Google Home app homescreen and a new option for Presence sensing will appear in the settings menu.
With this setting turned on, the smart home devices will automatically identify if you are at home and appropriately turn on the devices. Though the plan for the supported devices is expected to increase, currently this list includes the Nest thermostats, Nest cameras, smart plugs, smart switches, and smart lights.
The technology uses the GPS and the Wi-Fi function on the smartphone and smart home devices with motion sensors to find out whether the users are at home or out. At this point, there has been no confirmation from Google on whether the users will be able to create routines based from third-party smart sensors, but this is one of the things that have been heavily voiced out in the community as a wish list feature!
