Home Of The Future Starts With A Prefab Smart Home Built From Scratch
Home of the Future is a six-part video series produced by Curbed and The Verge is back with its second season. They build a prefab home in Texas with sustainability, cutting-edge technology, and innovation. Advantages of prefab construction include faster build time and higher quality control.
Evolution Building Systems, an Austin-based prefab builder, has a 265,000-square-foot factory that is the assembly line for houses. They develop about 50 houses every year. They take just one-third of the usual time to build a house onsite. This construction also makes sure that the house is shielded from long exposure to the elements.
The process begins with pouring the concrete floor. From there, the house rolls down the line, picking up walls, wiring, plumbing, and more over a series of 17 stations. All told, you can have a completed shell of a house in as little as five to six days, during which everything is carefully monitored. This is what our Home of the Future will go through.
They make sure that the construction is efficient and the design is innovative. For innovative designs, they are working with Ma Modular, an Austin firm. With modular designs, the units can be organized in multiple arrangements, according to the owner’s wish.
