How Can Apple’s Smart Home Configure Itself With Little To No Human Help?
Apple, one of the world’s most innovative companies, has applied for a patent on how a smart home will be able to configure itself with minimal human touch points.
The patent application is a dense one and has the prosaic title ‘Object tracking and authentication using modular wall units.’ You have to get some way into it before the full potential of what Apple describes becomes apparent.
The device will potentially be able to automatically detect objects, such as bookshelves, TV units, sofas, coffee tables to automatically generate a floor plan.
Once this has been created, it will use AI to guess the reason of every bit of smart home device that is added. For instance, if you add a light in the entertainment room, the Apple device will be able to detect that a light has been added, and automatically name it as the Entertainment Room Light. All permissions will need to be granted before the system does so. Though this is still far from being reality, similar things have been done in the past by Apple.
