Ikea Acquired AI Startup Geomagical Labs To Help Improve Room Visualizations
One of the largest international home furnishing manufacturers, Ikea, has always been a frontline runner when it comes to sensible investments. They are moving one step ahead by acquiring the Geomagical Labs, an AI imaging-based startup. The idea is that by using this technology, users will be able to scan their room using any smartphone and be able to remove/add/rearrange the furniture they want. This will give them an idea on how the final arrangement will look and if the furniture fits perfectly into that space.
Ikea already had developed an AR-based visualization tool, as one of the first to use Apple’s AR developer kit a few years ago, but this represents a far more accurate and useful development on that.
There is news that there are other investments as well. Geomagical Labs opted to work with Ikea because the company wanted to ensure that the technology is put to use as soon as possible. Ikea is spending millions on acquisitions and extracting. With their new acquisitions, they do spread the positivity around. It doesn’t seem like it is going to stop anytime soon!
