Ikea’s Investment, Including Partnering With Sonos, Shows Their Ambitions Into The Company’s Smart Home Future
Ikea is all set to have a dedicated business unit for smart home devices. In 2012, the company started working on smart lights and wireless charging. Over time, Ikea has perfected its products and also started developing a lot of other products. It now has a partnership with Sonos to create the Symfonisk range of wireless smart speakers.
Ikea also has its own ambitions in terms of being the hub for future smart home products, not only from a hardware perspective, but also via its Home Smart app, which it rebranded from being more strictly focused on its Tradfri line of connected bulbs in June.
The company has visions of viewing the Home Smart app as a hub for a connected home. They aim to achieve this by working on more smart home solutions that can also work as attractive home furnishing. Ikea believes that this is its new big focus point after the Children’s Ikea line.
The long-term partnership between Sonos and Ikea is working out well and more products are expected to be released soon. Ikea knows the hardships of establishing a smart home department, so it is also working on other partnerships.
