In The Year 2020… There Could Be Over 200 Million Smart Speaker Owners Worldwide!
Smart speakers are doing their best to automate our homes and make our lives simpler. One of the ways they do it is with voice recognition. The number of users using Alexa right now is set to double in the next couple of years.
Amazon Echo was released in November 2014 and since then, the company has not looked back. They have also enjoyed a great market share. Over 70% of the smart speakers owned by the users in the US is from Amazon. Currently, more than 20,000 products make use of Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant software, with notable examples being Bose soundbar, Sonos One smart speaker, and Amazon Fire TV stick.
Other brands were relatively slow in establishing their products in the market. Google released Google Assistant in 2016 while Apple launched HomePod in February only. The list will soon have a new addition – Facebook. While China was late in catching up with the smart speaker trend, the country received its first device named DingDong by LingLong in 2016.
According to data from Canalys, the size of the smart speaker market in China will soon exceed that of the US as Chinese tech companies such as Alibaba, Xiaomi and Baidu launch their own smart products.
