Inside Apple’s Plan To Automate Your Smart Home With Smart Switches
Apple has earned a name for being among the last contenders for the smart home market. While the company does have smart home products in its portfolio, it is generally one of the last ones to do so. Let’s talk about Apple’s latest patent.
The patent describes a ‘Module Wall Unit System’ which could be installed in place of a light switch or power socket. The device would then use locational and proximity data to control devices based on the precise location of people within the home.
The patent creates a floor plan for the building and creates groups of the room. In this manner, a group of rooms could be controlled with a single command or individually, as needed.
It uses the latest communications tech like radar, ultra-wideband, ultrasonic, and more. UWB is what helps make AirDrop work better and in a more precise manner. If the same tech makes its way into our homes, it would be able to control our lights and other appliances based on our location. While it is already possible with certain devices, as smart homes become more mainstream, its possibilities increase as well. In this case, it does show that Apple is certainly interested in the future of smart homes.
