Microsoft’s Cortana Will No Longer Be Alive After January 2020
Cortana was first revealed during the Microsoft’s BUILD Developer Conference in 2014 and since then, has been seen in Windows, Android, and iOS devices. However, it looks like the company is planning to remove Cortana from Android and iOS platforms.
With Microsoft’s mobile OS Windows Phone no longer selling, it looks like an effective end for Cortana. Microsoft announced that Cortana will no longer be available after January 2020.
Named after a popular AI (Artificial Assistant) character from Xbox’s blockbuster Halo franchise, Cortana stood out from the rest of the voice assistants due to its witty and often snarky replies.
Recently Microsoft said they will not be working on any voice assistants for the moment and started collaborating with Amazon. Post this, Microsoft released Skype on Alexa and Xbox One features Alexa support as well. The reason behind the sudden death of Cortana looks to be the fact that the Windows Phone never really gained traction.
Cortana was designed and developed to work and grow with Microsoft’s mobile platform. Not many people are interested in downloading Cortana’s stand-alone app. Due to this, the company decided to collaborate with Amazon and offer Alexa support to their products.
