More Users Than Ever Are Turning To Smart Speakers For Their Daily Dose Of News And Music
More and more users have started using their devices to stay updated and to entertain themselves as people continue to stay in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Young adults are using smart speakers as their main source of news. Even computers and radios have seen a tiny increase in use as more people are staying at home.
More smart speaker owners are using their devices as the first choice to consume audio content. Smartphones and tablets are still the favored choice for a plurality, but the 6% drop from last spring is notable.
A new survey tells us that about 36% of users are using their smart speakers more for music and entertainment after the COVID-19 pandemic began with 35% are using to access news more than anything else. Those over the age of 55 have also started using smart speakers more since the pandemic began. The main reason for this is the fact that users are on the lookout for audio content, regardless of the source. This is why radio has seen a spike in listeners. This has, in turn, given rise to audio content creation. Regardless, easy access to news and other media remains a priority for everyone, making smart speakers a reliable presence in most homes.
