Most Recent Updates To HomePod And HomeKit Shows That Apple Is Finally Getting Serious About Your Smart Home
Apple announced new features for HomePod smart home speaker and HomeKit smart home platform. The company has added support for smart security cameras with some differences in privacy and data protection. As of now, these smart security cameras upload their footage to the server, where an algorithm analyzes the content and then the user receives an alert in case of an issue.
Apple has taken steps so that the footage is analyzed locally, without being sent to the server, making it far more secure than before. They are also offering its iCloud users 10 days’ worth of free video recording. While Logitech and Arlo are the current manufacturers onboard, more are expected to join soon. If users want more storage, Apple is planning to come up with tariffs based on space.
The company also announced plans for their HomeKit-secured Wi-Fi routers, to be manufactured by Eero, Linksys, and Spectrum. It will automatically install firewalls in each HomeKit-compatible smart home device you add to your wireless network. Hand-off,
Apple said at WWDC, will automatically switch audio playback from your iPhone to your HomePod and back again when you bring the two devices close together.
HomePod will also get the ability to differentiate who is interacting with it and provide customized services.
