Nest Continues To Grow In Smart Home Security
Nest introduced their new devices, the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor security camera, the Nest Hello smart doorbell, and the Nest Secure alarm system, recently. The Linus Lock was also introduced again under the name Nest Yale Lock. In one move, Nest is now offering home security and automation system supported by Google.
Nest Cam IQ Outdoor is a video doorbell while Nest Secure is a security kit with alarm systems and sensors. Previously, Nest was offering different products to handle different aspects of your home. Now, they have made it convenient by bringing all of it under one umbrella. Any changes that need to be made can be made in the main settings. They still have their standalone products but they are now also offering to take care of your complete home security system.
While Nest is doing interesting things with home security (particularly by sticking facial recognition tech in outdoor cameras and doorbells), I’m not yet convinced Nest Secure adds much to what’s already out there. DIY systems like Abode, Scout and Simplisafe have been around for awhile and offer a lot of the same features as Nest’s Secure (and, in some cases, for less money).
