OnePlus’ Plans For Creating A Connected Ecosystem And Developing The Next-Gen Smart TV
Pete Lau, the CEO of OnePlus, talked to Repubblica, the Italian publication, about OnePlus and its plans for the future including smart TVs, folding phones, and cars. Lau mentioned that the company has been thinking of foldable phones for over a year now but have not come up with a justification as these don’t really offer something new to the consumers.
He believes that the current technology is far too young to create something like foldable phones and they end up being quite bulky and thick. OnePlus has chosen to focus on creating an ecosystem and plans to develop the next-gen smart TV as these electronics have not evolved in 2 decades.
Today, for example, when you come back home you have to look for the remote control to turn on the television and this is already a really dated system.
Pete Lau envisions a screen that anticipates the users’ needs and AI can evolve to a point that it can be done. Regarding smart cars, Lau doesn’t believe one company can build everything. That is why he wants to concentrate on platform, ecosystem, and software. At the rate IoT, AI, and 5G are developing, it is very likely that everything will be connected within the next decade.
