Pivoting Towards Productivity, Microsoft Takes The Step Of Shutting Down Cortana From Most Smart Devices
When it comes to voice assistants, most users only remember the Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or Apple’s Siri. There was another assistant that went unnoticed – Microsoft’s Cortana. This has been integrated with many devices and it is time that Microsoft lays Cortana to rest once and for all. The end of support for Cortana has been announced and the company will start to remove the functionality from the devices soon.
These changes are still a few months away, but it marks another big step for Microsoft in pivoting Cortana away from a Google Assistant or Alexa alternative to a more specialized, productivity-focused assistant.
Windows 10 will also be on the list from where Cortana’s functionalities will be removed. Instead, the tech giant will be focusing on improvising the productivity features on the Microsoft 365 suite. As a compensation for the users of the Harman Kardon Invoke, the company is going to offer them a $50 gift card as these users will be most impacted by the removal of Cortana. A $25 gift card will also be issued to the owners of the original Surface Headphones as compensation.
