Samsung’s Neon Is An Artificial Human With Feelings And A Personality
Samsung subsidiary STAR Labs, Neon is a humanlike “life form”. You could consider it to be a chatbot having a human face and a personality to match.
Imagine if Siri or Alexa had a virtual face and could carry on a genuine conversation instead of only fetching you tomorrow’s forecast. Neon is headed in that direction, and it’s equal parts fascinating, impressive and eerie.
While the AI tech needed for this is still under work, a beta release is set up for later this year. A Neon is an AI digital avatar that is designed to mimic human behavior. It comes with the ability to observe, learn, and remember. Possible use cases with Neon include receptionist, virtual counselor, language tutor, concierge, healthcare provider, actor, personal financial adviser, or TV anchor. Neon isn’t here to replace virtual assistants.
A Neon could exist as a hologram. As of now, interactions could be via smartphones, tablets, PCs and even smart TVs. It is also designed to respond in kind. This means if you are mean to it, you will upset your AI. But if you are polite, it will be kind to you. Users will not be able to customize their Neon or even own it. You will be able to subscribe to it and use it as long as you are paying for its services. This means businesses can rent Neons for specialized work. With Neon, you can expect better privacy and security.
