Seniors Are A Key Demographic For Google Home And Nest’s Smart Home Product Line
Google’s Nest may be getting ready for a big push into marketing smart home products and services to seniors, according to CNBC. Google Home and Nest may not have focused on the senior market originally, but the large and growing number of people in the U.S. who wish to remain independent as they get older presents an opportunity the company may not want to pass up.
Nest is considering ways to support elderly people who would prefer to stay at their own home instead of moving to assisted living facilities. For this, one will need excellent communications and event detection technologies. Nest is working with senior living facilities and talking to the experts to understand how their products can help the seniors.
Nest motion detection sensors have the ability to track behavior and take proper actions, such as turning on the lights when they move around the house to help with their vision. Other examples are alerting remote family members when the person is moving about a lot or is sedentary when the temperature is high. Nest is also looking at an algorithm to predict falls by analyzing motion data that specifically looks for changes in patterns. Since falls are the most frequent cause of death in seniors, a mix of Nest and Google Home products can help detect and prevent it.
