Smart Buildings Have A Huge Upside But Will Continue To Face Key Security Challenges
Tony Anscombe from ESET’s Global Security talked about smart building in the Segurinfo Argentina 2019 conference. With smart buildings growing at a rate of nearly 17%, the reason behind this is the fact that the world is depending more and more on technology and focusing on energy efficiency.
Smart buildings use technology to control a wide range of variables within their respective environments with the aim of providing more comfort and contributing to the health and productivity of the people inside them.
With IoT, smart buildings now have smart sensors which gather a lot of data that are used to analyze, diagnose, and predict the environment, maintain systems and automate processes. Better water and parking management, security cameras, setting temperatures and lights are some services that this technology supports.
While it is a smooth process, there are always risks involved when the entire smart network is connected to a single database. Shodan, or other similar tools, can help with finding vulnerable points. The low-budget IoT devices for smart buildings have an impact on the security aspect of it. Updating the devices on a regular basis, monitoring them, and installing a reliable software for working with vulnerabilities are good steps to take.
