Smart Cities Surveillance Systems Curb Criminal Activity, Ensure Safety, And Manage Traffic
With most of the population moving to urban areas, it is projected that about 68% of the world’s population will reside in cities in the next 30 years.
Smart cities are virtually transforming themselves into ‘living’ ecosystems, comprised of inanimate yet smart connected devices capable of recording, storing, processing and communicating critical information 24×7.
A smart city wouldn’t be all that useful or attractive if it was not safe. This is why surveillance systems are an important component here.
Smart signals can reduce accidents, congestion, and help manage traffic better. The CCTV Nenu Saitham project in Hyderabad City in India recently started using a surveillance system that tracks, analyzes, and monitors videos to identify traffic violations, criminal conduct, and conditions of the road.
A real-time autonomous drone surveillance system was created by a team from the UK and India which has an admirable accuracy rate of 84.44%. It can detect fire, a criminal activity like stealing, kidnapping, and more.
Besides being used for traffic management and reducing criminal activity, smart surveillance systems have a lot of applications in healthcare. For instance, Brazil has integrated connected video feeds, reducing its emergency response time by around 30%. While it is an excellent solution, we need to keep in mind that infrastructure plays a key role here, such as the storage, retrieval, and other functions of the video footage.
