Google Home Mini or Echo Dot? Which is the better voice-controlled assistant for a smarter home?
As of March 2018 nearly 20% of the U.S. population own a smart speaker. A large number of those smart speakers are either the Echo Dot or Google Home Mini. Unless you’ve been living under a rock we’re sure you’ve heard of both the Amazon Echo Dot and Google Home Mini. They are the voice-controlled smart assistants that make ordering pizza, jamming to your music, and controlling your smart devices easy.
Until recently Amazon has been winning the virtual assistant race with their Echo Dot. Although Google has just arrived on the “smart” landscape they have entered with a vengeance. Largely in part because of the Google Home Mini which is their direct competition to Amazon’s Echo Dot.
Both have definite advantages including Google’s AI and existing platform which makes the Mini a major contender. But Amazon’s 3rd party development brings all the skills to keep them in the game. Just like hardcore PC vs Mac users we can expect the competition between Google and Amazon on the smart home frontier to continue to grow.

So What’s The Verdict? Who Won Smart Home Battle Between The Amazon Echo Dot And Google Home Mini?
In our opinion the real winner would be you by picking up either the Amazon Echo Dot or Google Home Mini. Yeah we know that sounds ridiculous, and a bit “salesy”. And you’re right 🙂 But the truth is they are both great products that are a cost-effective way to start building a smarter home. Even if you only plan to add a few smart home features such as a smart thermostat or smart cameras it is well worth it. These smart devices can be controlled with your voice or through apps on your smartphone for both the Dot and Mini.
The choice is really up to you of what direction you want to go. The capabilities of both the Google Assistant on the Mini and Amazon’s Alexa on the Echo Dot will continue to grow. The majority of smart home brands will work for both virtual assistants. So you don’t have to stress too much about what smart products to choose because in all likely hood they’ll have no issues with either product.
The only devices that may have issues are the ones in direct competition such Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest. Also, the Echo Dot and Google Home Mini are both extremely cheap considering all they can do. So maybe if you’re still on the fence about them you should pick up both and test them to see which works better on the smart devices of your liking.
