Smart Home Devices Can Detect Early Signs Of Dementia With Behavioral Data
With age, people usually tend to experience cognitive decline. This decline is usually very gradual and hence, family members and friends do not recognize these changes. It has, however, been noted that smart home devices might be able to recognize these changes. The data collected by the smart home devices will allow them to detect behavioral changes.
Behavior Change Detection for Groups (BCD-G), a new algorithm, was developed by Washington State University. Here, a study of 14 volunteers was undertaken with 50% being healthy and rest affected with dementia. Multiple activities were analyzed. With the algorithm, clinics will be able to treat patients in a better and faster way!
While BCD-G proved useful for uncovering the behavioral patterns of people with dementia in this study, Sprint notes that the algorithm can be applied to a number of other health conditions.
