Smart Home Race Getting Even More Interesting With Apple Stepping Up To The Plate
Apple Watch and iPhone users may be able to pay transit fares and unlock doors with their smart gadgets soon enough.
Apple is ready to open up its near-field communication chips in its iPhones and smartwatches to allow more than just Apple Pay transactions, according to a recent report. The iPhone maker is expected to show off the next generations of its iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch operating systems during Monday afternoon’s keynote address.
The change will be seen in Apple’s iOS 12 which will let the iPhones unlock doors with the help of NFC chips that will be present in both the iPhones and the doors. Apple employees have already started testing this by using their iPhones to unlock the door at their office.
The address will include iPhone’s iOS 12. There are reports which say that Apple is also planning to expand iPhone X’s facial recognition functionality.
Digital Health is another tool being developed which will let the users monitor and restrict the time spent on their smartphones. Apple’s wearable device might get an update with a larger screen in September. The company might also be announcing new functionalities for Siri as it tries to catch up with Alexa and Google Assistant.
