Smart Park Benches? Just How Does IoT-enabled Park Benches In Paris Help Residents, Visitors, And City Planners?
The park benches in Paris showcase Baron Haussmann’s artistic eye.
Paris is creating a new generation of digitally enabled park benches that exploit the capabilities of the Internet of Things (IoT) and further extend Paris’ smart city initiatives.
These benches will now have IoT sensors and Bluetooth connection points. The company behind this, Groupe Saint Leonard, was looking for a solution that was cost-effective and durable. The sensors will be used to monitor the area and gather environmental information like atmospheric pressure and temperature. It works on a two-tier basis. The first-tier analytics will offer details like traffic, space, location, and environmental data. This will be made available to the city planners. With this data, the second-tier analytics comes into play.
The smart park bench project helps the city track the traffic and enhances communication with the visitors to understand if they are happy with the facilities there. The cost of this project is relatively low, considering that it is cloud-based. The sensors and the cloud subscription charges don’t amount to a lot relatively speaking. Since it is cloud-based, the maintenance is not very high either.
