Smart Speakers Not Being Used To Control Smart Devices. But That May Dramatically Change In The Near Future.
A research specialist found that about 6% of the owners of smart speakers from Apple, Google, and Amazon is used to control other technology they can connect with. The study says that they were not using the device to connect to heating technology or IoT lighting. More people said that they used their device to control music and control the video.
Naturally, the most common uses of the speakers was found to be in line with what speaker manufacturers market to the mainstream, i.e. ‘Answer a question’ or ‘Make a phone call’ and ‘Check the weather/news’ (with ‘Make a Purchase’ interestingly coming in 7th, just before controlling other devices).
Controlling these smart devices by voice commands is only a tiny fraction of all the possible interactions. It is likely that this category will continue to rise more in the future when more and more products start depending on voice control.
